The Piedmont Council of the Boy Scouts of America is honoring Gray Cathrall, a long-time Piedmont Council supporter and board member, with its Distinguished Citizen Award. An unusual and fun-filled evening, “A Roast and Toast for Gray” will take place beginning at 6:30pm at Golden Gate Fields’ Turf Club. With views of the Bay and San Francisco city lights, special presentations, guest activities and a roast, this promises to be an evening to remember.

Thanks to Gray, we share the fabric of Piedmont’s community life. The Post is so ubiquitous that it is easy to forget that without Gray, a community of our size would be unlikely to support a dedicated newspaper with the rich content we have come to expect. Instead, we know what is featured at the Piedmont Center for the Arts, who is running for local office, and even where fellow citizens have been on vacation. We especially love reading about our children and the milestones in their lives – school plays, prowess on the athletic field, and those who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

The event will benefit the Endowment Fund of the Piedmont Council. Piedmont Council is one of the largest youth organizations in town, with over 1,000 girls and boys participating in Scouting, Venturing and Learning for Life programs. Like The Post, Council programs -- from the Oakland Strokes to PHS students involved in Community Service Crew and, of course, Boy Scouts -- are a key component of our tight-knit community.
