Adult Leader Training—Venturing Training

Adult leaders undergo training so they can efficiently, effectively and safely lead Venturing programs. Components of the Venturing adult leader training program include:

Youth Protection

The Piedmont Council places the highest importance on protection of our youth. This online course covers the BSA’s Youth Protection policies, kinds of abuse, signs of abuse, how to respond to disclosure of abuse, and proper reporting procedures. It does so by taking you through situations that require choices and produce consequences.

Introduction for new Venturing Leaders

Basic Leader Training

Basic Leader Training comprises two parts: “This is Scouting” (90 minutes) for all unit-level leaders and Leader Specific Training, which is based on the leader’s unit level position:

  • Venturing Crew Advisors (5 hours)
  • Venturing Crew Committee Members (5 hours)

This training is offered by the Piedmont Council and other nearby councils. For information on dates and times, please check the council calendar or contact the Piedmont Scout Service Center for more information.

Wood Badge is the ultimate in leadership training for adult Venturing leaders.

Safety Afloat (http://www.scouting.org/HealthandSafety/Aquatics/safety-afloat.aspx) Where swimming or boating is included in the program at least one adult must be trained.

The Philmont Scout Ranch (http://www.scouting.org/philmont/) offers a number of short and long training programs for adult leaders, all set in the wilds of New Mexico. Bring your family for an affordable week of outdoor activity. The Ranch offers child care and day camp activities for your kids, while you training in the morning and enjoy family time in the afternoon.
