Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
August 27 @ 8:00 am - August 28 @ 12:00 pm
$40.00
This training course is an important, and enjoyable, part of the basic Scouting preparations pertinent to a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Venturing Crew leader, or parent volunteer. Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank.
**Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
- It covers the outdoor skills expected of a new Scout or Venturer.
- The skills you’ll learn closely follow those within the Scouts BSA Handbook and Venturing BSA outdoor expectations.
- You’ll gain confidence in your ability through hands-on, practical applications of abilities and proven methods that influence growth and achieve the goals of the BSA.
Please bring the following with you to the training:
- Personal overnight camping gear (view a specific list here)
- BSA medical forms parts A & B (found here)
Please note:
- The last day to register is Monday, August 22nd @ 12pm
- Space is limited to 12 – priority access is given to Piedmont Council members
- No walk-ins accepted
- Saturday lunch & dinner; Sunday breakfast; and snacks are provided
- Location: Dairy Glen Campsite, Coyote Hills Regional Park
**We strongly encourage you to complete the Scouts BSA Leader-Specific training modules online prior to attending this IOLS training to get the most benefit out of the session. Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific training is available online at “my.scouting.org” through the BSA Learn Center and is approximately 3 hours in duration.**
