Sea Scouts at the Richmond Rendezvous and Upcoming Trip to Angel Island

 In Council News, Sea Scouts

Last month at the Richmond Rendezvous, about 40 Scouts in all from six different ships participated in practice of regatta activities like scuttle butt, rope climb, bosun’s chair, navigation, and compass/relative bearings, but also in other practical nautical activities like hawser toss and engineering identification. The evening was capped-off by a tour and dinner aboard the historic SS Red Oak Victory. This photo how within a very short time of instruction, these sea scouts worked together to lash three 16 foot spars (wooden poles), haul them upright, while placing rope around a 55 gallon metal barrel full of water, attach a block hook to rope holding the barrel, then raise and lower the barrel four feet off the ground within a time limit.

Upcoming Trip to Angel Island with Troop 4 April 6-7. Please contact Skipper Javier Jerez for details: [email protected]
