Piedmont BSA Scouts participate in Maker Faire
Piedmont Scouts showcased leatherworking at the Maker Faire
On Sunday, 4/28, the 6th annual Piedmont Maker Faire was held at Beach Elementary School and brought many organizations and community members to showcase projects and activities. Among them were Piedmont Scouts, Peter and Joey Ichimaru, who supported participants in making wristbands and necklaces. At this leatherworking table, participants designed their creations and stamped their personalized names and messages into the leather to create their own masterpieces. Participants used a hammer to press in shapes to the leather, practicing fine and gross motor skills to create their designs. Some participants put their name or initials, while others put fun messages and one even put a hashtag in their wristband.
The Maker Faire was a tremendous success with many different activities for youth and adults to engage in. In addition to the Scout Leatherworking table, there included a miniature golf area, a Lego table, a racetrack, and many more. This annual event showcased the many projects that youth have created and is an opportunity for them to build something of their own, get their hands dirty, and make something. The Piedmont Scouts are excited to work with the Maker Movement in creating more opportunities for youth to build their skills in various activities, from outdoor skills to robot-making. The Maker Faire was a fun-filled atmosphere for youth to expand their horizons, try something new, and bring home more than just a wristband.
