2022 Northern Tier Contingent – Piedmont Council
June 21, 2022 @ 6:00 AM - June 29, 2022 @ 9:00 PM$600.00
The Piedmont Council of the Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce its 2022 summer high adventure trip to Northern Tier in Ely, Minnesota where scouts will explore the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The Northern Tier – Charles L Sommers Base is located near Ely, MN at the edge of the one million acre Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Scouts will travel together from the Bay Area to the Northern Tier Base then separate into “crews” of nine. Crews will spend 6 days and 5 nights paddling, portaging, and camping throughout the BWCAW. Each crew chooses its own route and navigates using maps and compass. A professional guide joins each crew for the trip but, in true scout tradition, each crew will be scout led. Crews include two adults, six scouts, and one guide. More information can be found at www.ntier.org under Summer Adventures – Charles L Sommers Base.
Minimum Requirements for Youth
Scouts must be at least 14 years of age (by trip date) or have completed 8th grade; be strong swimmers meeting BSA Swimmer level certification; and weigh at least 100lbs. It is also strongly recommended that scouts have prior backpacking experience and can carry a 100lb pack for ¼ mile.
