Cub Scout Packs K-5th Grade

Is your child K-5th Grade? Cub Scouting has a 100-year tradition in Piedmont and is more relevant than ever today. It uniquely provides Kindergarten through 5th grade youth with opportunities to have fun and explore the outdoors while learning new skills and reinforcing character values that last a lifetime. Scouting encourages kids to engage physically in their community and world around them while having fun with their friends and family in the process. Check out each of the Packs below to find a meeting location and schedule. Contact the Council Office for more information: [email protected]

PACK 3 – Ellen Driscoll Auditorium, Haven’s Elementary 6pm to 7pm Meets Every 2nd Wednesday

For more information contact Sarah Eisemon or Lisa Kaplan

Pack 3 Cub Scouts keep it exciting! Our dens have been involved in some fantastic activities – dens visited local police and fire stations; built and launched rockets at Dracena Park; learned about old and rare coins from a coin collector with a fantastic collection; learned how to safely build and cook on a fire; honed their whittling skills; and removed invasive plants at Wood Park in Oakland.  In addition to our monthly Pack meeting games, we’ve done a number of Pack activities. We learned design and woodworking skills to create fast Pinewood Derby cars, slept in the racks of the USS Hornet, hiked the stairways of Piedmont, and built tents in the Piedmont Park.

PACK 4 – Meets 2nd/3rd Monday, 6:30 pm at PHS Student Center/Ellen Driscoll

For more information contact Brad Cardon or Bernice Gallagher

Pack 4 Scouts have lots of fun! The annual Tree Lot is a big seller with our Cubs, literally, who help raise money for all Piedmont Scout programs. Building cars for Pinewood Derby, building and launching catapults, pirate story-telling, mummy wrapping, and learning to weave paracord bracelets keep our Cub Scouts excited. Cubs from Pack 4 also join in the fun and achievement at the Webeloree every September. They  practice aluminum foil cookery, make a tent with just a tarp and some rope, perform first aid on their fellow campers, and learn the calls of local birds. Overnight camping, Christmas Caroling in December at “The Point in Rockridge”, a senior living site, and spending the night aboard the USS Hornet in the spring are just a few more highlights!

PACK 5 – Meets 2nd Thursday, 6:30 pm at Wildwood Elementary Auditorium

For more information contact Jovie Strzelecki or Scott Miller

Pack 5 keeps busy having fun and learning, starting with August’s campfire and s’mores feast!  We build cool cars and race them in the Pinewood Derby.  We practice knots, lashings, and making rope.  We make compasses and navigate with a map.  After learning what to pack and how to pitch a tent, we camp! The Webelos learn about engineering principles, local plants and animals, and launch model rockets high into the air at Moffet Field.  The Bears tour the Piedmont Police station and practice composting and cooking. The Wolves discover Lake Merritt’s history, then clean trash out of the lake with cool gloves and huge nets, usually filling 8 big garbage bags.  They also perform skits and climb Mount Diablo’s Rock City. The Tigers hike Joaquin Miller Park and tour the Piedmont Fire Station, where they learn about fighting and preventing fires. The Pack picnic caps off the year, complete with the traditional tug of war!

PACK 6 – Meets 3rd Friday, 6:45 pm at Corpus Christi Gibson Center

Pack 6 Cub Scouts pack a lot of learning and fun into the year! The older Scouts kick off the year with the Webeloree, and work on the Outdoorsman and Forestry pins. We also work on some fun badges like biking, whittling, collections, marbles and citizenship, and some achieve their religious awards. Pack meetings include a bike rodeo, pumpkin carving, hiking Mount Tam, rock climbing, and racing cars we design and build in the Pinewood Derby. We practice being good citizens by participating in service projects: placing flags at Mountain View cemetery for Memorial Day, singing carols at Monarch Place for Christmas, helping at the Tree Lot, and collecting food for the Food Bank. We wrap up the year by inviting the Kindergarten boys to our meeting to set up tents and make s’mores over a campfire.
